Verify Regulator-conferred credentials and a live Google review rating are the two highest-value additions to this strip. Neither is displayed until Aizaa supplies evidence.

The situation

Holding a residence visa is not the same as being tax resident

A Tax Residency Certificate is issued by the Federal Tax Authority and is used to claim benefits under the UAE's double taxation agreements. It has its own tests and its own evidence requirements, and it is not granted simply because someone holds a residence visa.

Most rejected applications we see failed on evidence — insufficient days, a lease that does not support the claim, or bank activity that does not match the stated residence.

What Aizaa does

We check whether the tests are met before applying, assemble the evidence in the form the authority expects, submit the application and deal with any follow-up request.

Not sure where you stand? Ask us — a 15-minute call usually settles it.

What’s included

  • Eligibility review against the applicable tests, for the company or the individual
  • Evidence assessment before submission
  • Preparation of supporting documents, including certified statements where needed
  • Application submission and tracking
  • Response to any authority query
  • Guidance on using the certificate for treaty purposes

Who this is for

  • UAE companies claiming treaty benefits
  • Individuals resident in the UAE needing proof for another jurisdiction
  • Companies whose counterparty or bank has requested a certificate
  • Applicants whose earlier application was rejected

Who it is not for

We would rather say so now than three weeks in.

  • Applicants who do not meet the residence tests — we will tell you before you apply, not after

Process

How it works

Each step says what we do and what we need from you, so nothing stalls on an unasked question.

  1. Eligibility review

The applicable test for your situation and whether your evidence supports it.

  2. Evidence assembly

Lease, immigration record, bank statements and certified documents as required.

  3. Submission

Application filed with the Federal Tax Authority.

  4. Follow-up

Any query answered promptly, which is usually what decides the timeline.

  5. Issue

Certificate issued and provided to you in the format the requesting party needs.

  6. Next year

The renewal date is diarised — TRCs are period-specific.

Documents you will need

Gather these before we start and the process runs roughly a week faster.

  • Trade licence and memorandum, for companies
  • Passport, Emirates ID and residence visa, for individuals
  • Tenancy contract or title deed
  • UAE bank statements for the relevant period
  • Immigration entry and exit report, for individuals
  • Audited financial statements, for companies
  • The treaty country and the purpose of the certificate

How long it takes

Processing times depend on the authority's queue and on whether the file is complete at submission. Incomplete evidence is the usual cause of delay, which is why the review happens before the application rather than after a rejection.

What it costs

Authority fees are set by the FTA and payable regardless of who applies. Our fee for the review, preparation and submission is quoted in advance.

What goes wrong

Common mistakes

These are the ones we are asked to unpick most often.

Assuming a residence visa is sufficient

The certificate has its own tests.

Applying for the wrong period

TRCs are period-specific; the period must match the treaty claim.

Thin supporting evidence

The most common reason for rejection.

Leaving it until the counterparty's deadline

Processing is not instant and queries add time.

Why Aizaa

Four reasons you can check

We review before we apply

So a rejection is not how you find out.

Which is the whole application.

Renewals diarised

Certificates are period-specific and get forgotten.

Frequently asked questions

It evidences UAE tax residence so that benefits under a double taxation agreement can be claimed in another country, and it is often requested by banks and counterparties.

Both, under their respective tests and evidence requirements.

No. The certificate has its own tests and its own evidence requirements. Holding a visa is a precondition for an individual application, not a qualification in itself.

A certificate relates to a specific period, so it is renewed rather than held indefinitely. We diarise the date.

Usually. Rejections are most often evidential, and the remedy is to establish what was missing and rebuild the file properly before reapplying.
